We were delighted to welcome Bishop Donald Hying of the Diocese of Madison to Shoreless Lake School on Thursday, December 12. The Bishop came to tour our newly renovated building and spend time with our students, bringing his characteristic warmth and pastoral presence to our school community. During the tour, Bishop Hying expressed genuine appreciation for the extensive renovations and improvements made to our facility.
What truly stood out was the engaging dialogue between Bishop Hying and our students. The girls posed thoughtful questions ranging from the technical aspects of his role ("Can a Bishop excommunicate someone?") to personal inquiries about his language abilities ("Where did you learn to speak Spanish?"). The Bishop approached each question with careful consideration, weaving spiritual insights into his responses and elevating the conversation beyond mere facts to touch on deeper truths.
The students were particularly captivated by Bishop Hying's personal stories, especially his recollections of his youth and his experiences in South America. These anecdotes not only entertained but also served to illustrate the universal nature of Faith and service. His natural ability to connect with young people was evident throughout the visit, and his genuine enjoyment of their company was clear to all present.
We are grateful for Bishop Hying's visit and the opportunity it provided our students to interact with such an inspiring spiritual leader.
